American Idol Recap: Los Angeles and DallasJanuary 26, 2010
“The number 1 show on TV returns tonight with the L.A. auditions featuring Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne. If you didn’t know already, the show will have a top 24 that will be whittled down by the American public to find the next American Idol. A list has been spreading around with the lucky 24 (I have been avoiding it because i would like to be surprised if some of the good ones actually make it or don’t). In another story, a guy by the name of Michael Lynche was given the boot after his father confirmed with the St Petersburg Times that his son made the top 24. This broke the confidentiality agreement and also forced the producers to remove Michael from the real top 24! Too bad your dad as a big mouth!”
Update: (Jan 26) 22 singers made it through. A lot of interesting characters today, but the talent that did make it through was pretty good. The highlights included Jim Ranger, Mary Powers, Tasha Layton, Chris Golightly and the very strong Andrew Garcia. Interesting group of singers, all with very emotional stories. I do believe that the producers are making sure the American audience connects with these stories… Sometimes i think the voice should be able to do that without the need of a sad story. But i do see a couple of people in this group who will probably make it to the top 24 including Andrew Garcia who got very positive comments from the judges.
Update: (Jan 27) Dallas was another interesting group of contestants and Judges. Neil Patrick Harris and Joe Jonas. NPH was actually brutal and went at it with Simon. This is the audition round, not the finals..why so harsh? More drama, more sappy stories and illnesses. The best of the rest where Kimberly Carver, Erica Rhodes (Barney Dominatrix girl), Dawntoya Thomason, Stephanie Davlong and Meagan Wright. Now for the good but sad…Dave Pittman who suffers from Tourettes was actually pretty good. I wonder if his disease will take him into the top 24. Also Christina Spear who suffered from Leukemia..another possible entrant. But the star of the night was a guy who sang with Fantasia on the Color Purple broadway musical, singing his own song, which was pretty good!! Professional or not, i guess he needed a break to sing solo?!? Here’s hoping Idol decides soon to let the public decide on what they want to emotionally attach themselves too rather than using illnesses and struggles to sell a contestant.
