RIP Alexander McQueen

February 11, 2010

“British fashion icon known for his creative and unique fashions as well as his out of this world fashion shows was found dead in his London Home.  This came as a huge shock to the fashion world.  One of the causes has been stated was the recent death of his mother.  He was to present his latest collection at Paris Fashion Week in less than a month.  Here’s hoping that happens to glorify his work because he truly is one of the pioneers and innovators of fashion in our decade!”

Avatar – The Numbers

January 12, 2010

“On Day 45, the film crossed the 2 billion mark. And on day 47 became the highest grossing film in the US!!  It currently stands at 2.712b. At this rate and the continuing overseas success could even see the overseas total end up close to the worldwide finish of Titanic alone.  Every day is an unofficial record and overseas the film hasn’t budged.  Officially it has records for best New Years Day, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh weekend, MLK weekend, domestic, overseas, and now the worldwide record. With a 15% increase due to better weather, this points to a 20+ weekend going into it’s 9th weekend.  650+ by Sunday is certain!  A 24m for Wednesday and Thursday points to another strong hold from last week!!

Feb 12 – 18

Day 57 – 59 (Friday-Sunday) 23.6m/661.2m domestic (1) + 59.8m/1.69b overseas (1) = 2.351b worldwide (1)

Day 61 Tuesday 1.8m/668.2m domestic (1) + 23m/1.708b overseas (1) = 2.376b worldwide (1)

Holding extremely well domestically.  The film is down only 9% from last week and down 14% overseas at this point.  At this rate the film is heading for a small drop this coming week.  On the domestic front there is only one contender this weekend instead of 3 and that should help the film cross 700m by this weekend.

Day 62 Wednesday 1.7m/669.9m domestic (1) + 11m/1.719b overseas (1) = 2.389b worldwide (1)

Feb 19-25

Day 64-66 (Friday-Sunday) 16.2m/687.9m domestic (1) + 48.4m/1.77b overseas (1) = 2.458b worldwide (1)

Day 67 Monday 1.3m/689.2m domestic (1) + ???/1.77b overseas (1) = 2.459b worldwide (1)

Day 68 Tuesday 1.3m/690.5m domestic (1) + ???/1.77b overseas (1) = 2.461b worldwide (1)

Day 69 Wednesday 1.2m/691.7m domestic (1) + ???/1.77b overseas (1) = 2.462b worldwide (1)

Day 70 Thursday 1.2m/692.9m domestic (1) + (added to weekend)/1.77b overseas (1) = 2.463b worldwide (1)

Due to the time the film has been playing in theaters, it is unlikely that there will be daily grosses overseas until the weekend which will include the entire week.

Avatar – The Phenomenon

December 29, 2009

“The film has grossed 623.5 million worldwide in 10 days, well on its way to 1 billion dollars.  Currently, Titanic is the overwhelming champion with 1.8 billion dollars (Cameron’s last great epic). Coming in a distant second is The Return of The King with 1.1 billion.  Both Avatar and The Return of the King opened in late December and Avatar is reaching similar numbers both domestically and worldwide.  Avatar just broke the record for the second highest weekend ever, beating out The Dark Knight and only dropped by 1.8% compared to last weeks takings, so word of mouth and overall appeal is very good.  With these holds, Avatar is well on its way to breaking 1 billion and maybe even breaking Return of The King for the second highest box-office take.  After all with the next few weeks offering little competition and current competition falling short of expectations, Avatar is on its way to more records.”
