Weekend Update Jan 8-10

January 5, 2010

“If you need a break from Avatar, I would suggest Daybreakers.  Its True Blood and New Moon except in this story vampires rule the world and they are running out of human blood to sustain themselves.  Without enough human blood, how will they survive?  It’s an interesting concept and it’s been awhile since there has been a high-quality horror thriller. This is the best time of the year to release new films, but this one is definitely worth checking out in theaters”

Watch It

Also Opening: Leap Year (Amy Adams), Youth In Revolt (Michael Cera)

Netflix It (Not worth the trip to the theater unless you like Amy Adams and female-driven films or coming of age comedies)

Update: According to as of yesterday afternoon Avatar was selling between 78-85% of the tickets for this weekend so i guess these films are going to be the films you see if you didn’t buy your tickets for Avatar in time.

Movies in January

January 1, 2010

“It’s January in Cinema!!  After a record breaking December, its the slow season and its back to school time.  Usually most films in December that arrived in time for Oscar consideration are expanding, but there are some opening to consider.  I Am Legend inspired some.  Stories about the end of humanity and the world falling apart seems to be the theme.  And there are a few b-level comedies and dramas as well but nothing major. So after watching the trailers for these films, here is what you should do.”

Watch It (If you have already watched Avatar 3 or more times and want to try something else)

The Book Of Eli, Daybreakers, Legion, Extraordinary Measures, Edge of Darkness

Netflix It (Wait for it to come on dvd)

Leap Year, Waiting For Armageddon, The Tooth Fairy, When In Rome, The Weathered Underground, The Paranoids, Off and Running, Youth In Revolt

Forget It (Don’t bother, it’s not worth it)

Bitch Slap, Crazy On The Outside, Wonderful World, The Spy Next Door, Saint John Of Las Vegas,
